About Us

We are on a mission to advance Earth observation data as a vital tool for commerce, conservation, and well-being. Guided by our core values of innovation, integrity, and collaboration, we provide cutting-edge data solutions that drive meaningful insights for a smarter, safer world.

Capella Space is an American aerospace company specializing in Data as a Service and satellite solutions for government and commercial applications. As the first U.S. company to deploy a constellation of commercial SAR satellites, we deliver high-quality, high-resolution SAR data, providing easy access to reliable insights for informed decision-making.

Revolutionizing SAR Technology

The rise of commercial space has unlocked a wealth of information from a new generation of low Earth orbit satellites. Capella Space is the first U.S. company to harness this data, providing humanity with a clear and accurate view of the planet through SAR technology.

A New Frontier

Capella offers Earth observation that cuts through weather conditions and darkness, delivering clarity regardless of the circumstances.

Boldness in our DNA

We embrace ambitious challenges, driving us to deliver the highest resolution SAR imagery available in the commercial market.

Transformative Innovation

While SAR technology isn’t new, we’ve made it faster, more powerful, and accessible to decision-makers around the world.

Our Journey to Space

At Capella Space, we pride ourselves on being the first U.S. company to launch and operate Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites. As the commercial space industry and advancements in cloud computing sparked a smallsat revolution, we recognized the potential to harness this wealth of information in innovative ways. While many companies relied on optical satellites, which struggle with timely and reliable Earth observation, we saw a unique opportunity.

Founded in 2016, our mission is to enable a richer understanding of our planet through the power of SAR technology. We focus on monitoring the 75% of Earth that is either shrouded in darkness or obscured by clouds.

In 2018, we launched "Denali," the United States’ first commercial SAR satellite, marking a significant step toward creating a constellation capable of 24/7 all-weather monitoring of our planet.

By 2020, we launched "Sequoia," demonstrating that we could produce the highest quality commercial SAR imagery in a fraction of the time and cost compared to traditional manufacturers.

Today, our team is committed to building the next generation of SAR sensors, enhancing our constellation to improve decisions related to commerce, conservation, and security on Earth. We are focused on:

  • Demonstrating bistatic SAR from space
  • Providing mid-inclination SAR capabilities
  • Achieving repeat-track orbits
  • Demonstrating coherent change detection stacks
  • Offering 30-60 second dwell collections
2016

Our Founding Vision

Capella Space was founded as the first U.S. company to commercialize SAR technology. After completing a Stanford program aimed at solving national security challenges with Silicon Valley innovation, a vision for real-time all-weather observation was born. The company raised $3M in seed funding to realize this mission.
